Incremental encoders available with Sin/Cos interface

Based in Giessen, Germany, Johannes Hübner Fabrik elektrischer Maschinen GmbH is extending its range of products: Following on from the new development of the Ex FG 40 incremental encoder for deployment in potentially explosive atmospheres (gas/dust) the entire FG 40 series has now also been equipped with a Sin/Cos interface.

The FG 40 series from Johannes Hübner Giessen consists of incremental encoders with numerous optional features; designed specifically for the applications in heavy industry these devices are both rugged and reliable. Following further development designed to meet the needs of applications in potentially explosive atmospheres the ATEX/IECEx certified Ex FG 40 has been added this year, each device with HTL, TTL or Sin/Cos output. This sine-cosine interface is now available for the entire JHG encoder series FG 40 including the Ex FG 40.

Designed for control tasks in drive engineering the products impress with rugged aluminium casings boasting high resistance to shock and vibration. As a consequence they are particularly suitable for upgrade and new build projects subject to stringent requirements; the Ex FG 40 is especially recommended for deployment in potentially explosive atmospheres exposed to extremely harsh environmental conditions, such as offshore drilling rigs and petrochemical applications. The extremely high level of control accuracy results from the excellent signal quality and very good interpolation. In conjunction with safe evaluation units it is possible to realize diverse safety functions up to SIL 2 / PL d.

Very good pulse duty factor values (1:1 ±3 %) and phase displacement (90° ±3 %) delivers precision optical scanning. A dual signal output is also available with two equal (redundant) blocks of sinusoidal signals or in combination with HTL or TTL output signals. A second such output signal can be required, for example, for higher-level controls or as a redundant signal where increased safety requirements are imposed. This makes a second encoder or rather an additional pulse splitter superfluous to requirements.

The new sine-cosine interface is available for all design versions of the encoder series FG 40: Solid shaft with a diameter of 11 mm or 14 mm for flange or foot mounted attachment; hollow shafts up to a diameter of 20 mm; optionally available with one or two radial terminal boxes or rather a second shaft end to attach other devices. The signal lines are easily terminated in the generously dimensioned terminal box. Self-adjusting spring loaded terminals guarantee a high level of termination reliability.
