Case Study: Fewer components for increased safety

Old installations often cause problems that outweigh the solutions they offer. Our new case study demonstrates how a fault-prone encoder system with a multitude of individual components can be transformed into a safe and low-maintenance system solution.

Modernizing an eRTG crane

Electrified rubber tired gantry cranes (eRTG cranes) move without a guide rail and can be used flexibly throughout the entire terminal area. Against this background, it is particularly important that the position, speed and revolutions are measured correctly and reliably to ensure that the crane functions safely. For one of our customers, an old encoder solution with a distribution gear and a multitude of individual measuring devices and components was frequently causing faults and also causing problems requiring complex repair work.

A complete solution with engineering support

Hübner Giessen developed a reliable and simple complete solution with just one device. This solution reduces the risk of severe system defects such as fractured coupling and makes system maintenance much easier. Our Case Study provides a precise insight into the Hübner Giessen solution for the hoist and drum of an eRTG crane.
